About Digital TMJ
Digital TMJ is a structured, biomechanical approach to diagnosing and treating TMJ and TMD, developed by Dr. Curtis Westersund, DDS. Rather than looking at the jaw in isolation, the approach considers how the bite, muscles, airway, posture and the rest of the body work together, using objective measurement to bring greater clarity to diagnosis and treatment planning.

Dr. Curtis Westersund earned his DDS from the University of Alberta in 1979 and has practiced in Calgary ever since. For more than two decades, his work has focused on temporomandibular disorders (TMD/TMJ), occlusion, and chronic head and jaw pain.
He is a Fellow (2014) and Master (2015) of the International College of Cranio-Mandibular Orthopedics (ICCMO) and a past president of its North American chapter. He is also an online Associate Professor of Neuromuscular Orthodontics at Universitat Jaume I, Catedra GMI Dental Science in Spain, a certified Disclusion Time Reduction (DTR) provider, and a T-Scan digital occlusal analysis trainer for Tekscan.
His peer-reviewed research has appeared in CRANIO: The Journal of Craniomandibular & Sleep Practice and the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine. He also co-authored The Biomechanical Brain: Rewiring Health from Teeth to Toes.
Through Digital TMJ, Dr. Westersund teaches dentists a structured, biomechanical approach to seeing the whole case, from teeth to toes, and addressing the underlying causes of TMJ rather than treating symptoms in isolation.
